On Tuesday, 9 December 2025, following an initiative of the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we held the first meeting of the Special Task Force established to address the critical issue of the loss of use of occupied properties.
As President of the Chamber, I see this effort as both necessary and timely. The meeting brought together members of the Chamber’s Board, representatives of all parliamentary parties, and the President of the Pancyprian Refugees Association, reflecting a shared understanding of the seriousness of the issue.
We agreed that, at the next meeting, each participating body will present concrete proposals, with the aim of shaping a comprehensive and well-documented approach. The focus is on strengthening the draft bill currently under discussion in Parliament for the creation of a Loss of Use Property Fund, as well as examining additional mechanisms for fair financial compensation. The ultimate objective is the equitable distribution of the economic burden resulting from the Turkish invasion.
It was clearly acknowledged by all that this issue concerns the rights of displaced persons and the protection of property, and must be addressed with unity, responsibility, and without political exploitation.
The Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry will continue to work consistently and decisively to support solutions that promote social justice and long-term fairness.
