On Wednesday, 26 November 2025, I attended the screening of the documentary “Varosha – Europe’s Enclosed City” at the Paralimni–Deryneia Municipal Hall. The event was organised by the Famagusta–Cape Greco Rotary Club and held under the auspices of the Mayor of Famagusta, Dr Simos Ioannou.
The documentary highlights the reality of Varosha, an enclosed area of Famagusta that has remained under military control since the Turkish invasion of 1974. For decades, the city has been inaccessible to its lawful residents and has stood abandoned, becoming a symbol of unresolved injustice and violation of fundamental human rights within the European Union.
This initiative, led by Mr Tony Toumazis through the Varosha International Initiative and produced by Green Olive Films, aims to raise international awareness of the continued denial of property and human rights to European citizens.

As the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we proudly supported this production, recognising its importance in preserving memory, identity, and historical truth. Documentaries like this play a vital role in ensuring that Varosha is not forgotten and that its story continues to be heard beyond our borders.
