On Friday 1/3/2024, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, during his visit to Famagusta, visited the offices of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry where he attended a meeting with representatives of the businessmen of the region as well as with representatives of organised associations and groups. The meeting was also attended by the President of KEBE Mr. Stavros Stavrou.

The issues discussed at the meeting were the labor problems faced by the business world of Famagusta District and which hinder the smooth operation of its activities.

The problem of finding manpower was particularly emphasized, which is related, among other things, to the handling of the time-consuming and bureaucratic procedures for obtaining the relevant permission for hiring manpower from third countries.

The Minister noted that the timeframe needed to secure the relevant permit had been reduced, and expressed confidence that there would be further improvements in this regard in the coming period and expressed optimism that staffing would be provided where needed.

The aim, he said, is to staff the market properly so that there are no problems in the growth of the economy.

The Minister outlined the Government’s policy on the above issues and answered other questions raised at the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the President of the Chamber Mr. Charalambos Manoli thanked the Minister and the President of KEBE for their presence, expressing his satisfaction for the meeting which proved to be constructive and useful for all parties.
